A strategic deep dive for internal audit leaders

Een strategische verdieping
  • April 22, 2026

The role of internal audit has fundamentally changed in recent years. From a function that primarily looks back, Internal Audit is increasingly evolving into a strategic sparring partner for executive management and supervisory boards. Geopolitical uncertainty, increasing regulation, technological developments and rising stakeholder expectations require leadership, vision and agility within the internal audit function.

To support (future) heads of internal audit in this transition, PwC’s Academy will once again organise the Internal Audit Summer School in September 2026: an intensive two‑day programme bringing together strategy, thought leadership and current developments. This edition will be delivered in English and brings peers and PwC experts together for in‑depth learning, reflection and interaction.

Internal audit leaders face strategic choices

Internal audit leaders face strategic choices. How do you ensure that your audit strategy aligns with organisational objectives? How do you respond to geopolitical risks and societal developments? And how do you position Internal Audit as a relevant discussion partner for board members and other stakeholders?

At the same time, the profession is evolving rapidly. New insights into audit planning, assurance mapping, competency management and AI adoption require continuous updating of both knowledge and skills. The challenge is not only understanding what is happening but also translating these developments into a future‑proof internal audit function.

Two days of strategic depth and reflection

The Internal Audit Summer School has been specifically developed for (future) heads of internal audit who want to achieve strategic depth in a short period of time. Over two intensive days, youwill work on:

  • assessing and strengthening the internal audit strategy, including activities, methodologies and the use of technology;
  • gaining insight into key geopolitical trends and their impact on organisations and the internal audit function;
  • conducting effective stakeholder conversations on current and strategic issues;
  • exploring current developments in audit planning, assurance mapping and competency management;
  • learning practical lessons from PwC’s own experience with AI adoption, translated into building an AI roadmap with attention to governance, risks, tooling and change.

The programme is interactive and practice‑oriented. PwC experts share their experiences and actively engage with participants, creating space for reflection, peer learning and direct applicability within participants’ own organisations.

From insight to visible impact

The Internal Audit Summer School offers more than knowledge alone. You strength their strategic thinking, sharp your leadership skills and build a valuable professional network with peers. You gain practical tools to position internal audit as a visible and relevant function within your organisation and to proactively respond to both external and internal developments.

For clients, this results in an internal audit function that not only provides assurance, but also looks ahead, advises and contributes to sustainable value creation. In an increasingly complex environment, this makes a real difference.

Are you someone who wants to future‑proof your internal audit function?
