SAP GTS

Gain greater control over international trade processes

SAP GTS

Why choose SAP GTS?

International trade presents an increasing number of challenges. These include export controls, sanctions legislation, preferential origin, customs declarations and changing trade agreements between countries. When these processes are carried out manually or spread across different systems, the likelihood of errors, delays and compliance risks increases.

With SAP GTS, you gain greater control over these processes and can:

  • minimise compliance risks and potential fines;
  • automate customs processes;
  • make better use of trade data;
  • optimise import duties;
  • better manage international trade flows;
  • further integrate SAP processes; and
  • support global growth.

In this way, you lay a solid foundation for efficient, compliant and scalable international trade.

What are the benefits of SAP GTS?

The impact of SAP GTS goes beyond mere compliance. The user cases below demonstrate how organisations use SAP GTS to strengthen compliance, mitigate risks and, at the same time, achieve significant cost savings.

The challenge

If you manufacture or trade in products subject to export control legislation, you want to be sure that the goods do not end up in the hands of sanctioned parties or countries. At an international manufacturer of high-tech products, the existing compliance solution proved unable to block transactions in time. As a result, products were manufactured, sold and shipped to a sanctioned customer. The consequences were severe: legal proceedings, personal liability of the employees involved and fines totalling 80 million euros.

Our approach

We implemented SAP GTS and integrated compliance checks directly into the business processes. This meant that transactions were automatically checked before production, sales or shipping could take place. As soon as a sanctioned party or destination was detected, the process was automatically blocked.

The result

  • reduced compliance risks;
  • better management of export control obligations;
  • lower risk of financial loss;
  • better protection of reputation and brand value.

The challenge

Many organisations make use of preferential rules of origin to reduce import duties. In practice, these processes are often carried out manually. As a result, organisations often opt for a conservative approach to avoid compliance risks. The consequence is that some of the potential savings remain untapped. One of our clients achieved annual savings of five million euros on import duties, although the actual potential was considerably higher.

Our approach

We automated origin management using SAP GTS. For each batch, SAP GTS automatically calculates whether the relevant rules of origin are met. This provides greater certainty regarding compliance and greater scope to make the most of available trade benefits.

The result

  • less manual work;
  • greater certainty regarding compliance;
  • more accurate determination of origin;
  • annual savings of ten million euros instead of five million euros.
