COVID-19 fundamentally changes consumer behaviour

PwC's eleventh consecutive Global Consumer Insights Survey highlights the habits and behaviour of consumers in cities and shows how the global disruption caused by COVID-19 has accelerated a more digital way of life. The pandemic and the resulting social distancing measures have led to fundamental changes in the way consumers work, eat, communicate and care for their health.

Globally:

  • 45 percent of global consumers say healthcare is one of the top three reasons for living in a city.
  • 69 percent of global consumers are more focused on mental health and well being.
  • 43 percent of global consumer expect businesses to be accountable for their environmental impact.

Transparency, sustainability and convenience

The corona crisis has sharpened the consumer's desire for transparency, sustainability and convenience. Companies that have built a relationship of trust with consumers, invested in a customer journey that seamlessly meets consumer needs and prioritises consumer health and safety benefit most from the new situation.
