The benchmark analysis shows there are substantial variations within the sector. Companies with a clear focus on maintenance, sustainability, and the energy transition are generally performing relatively strongly, while other players are struggling more to maintain margins and capacity. Scale and labour productivity are also becoming increasingly important themes. Large organisations are often better positioned to invest in technology, data, and innovation than their small- and medium-sized counterparts.
Smaller and medium-sized players also need to make increasingly focused choices in digitalisation and execution. Despite a slight contraction in 2024, the medium-term outlook remains positive. This is precisely why the benchmark helps to contextualise performance and sharpen strategic decision-making in a rapidly evolving sector.
The PwC Installation and Maintenance Sector Benchmark is based on publicly available annual reports over the period 2021 to 2024, and compares companies on growth, operating result, productivity, financial resilience, and other factors.
“The sector plays a crucial role in driving the energy transition and is therefore well placed to take a strong position and set the tone.”
