PwC Consumer Markets M&A Deals newsletter August 2026

Transactions that move the retail, consumer and leisure industries
  • 28 Aug 2026

Although deal volumes remain below the historical average, they rose by approximately twelve per cent in the EMEA consumer market in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

We expect M&A activity to increase further. AI, changing customer behaviour and competitive pressure are forcing management teams to transform their business or even reinvent it entirely.

Deal activity in July comprised a total of 87 deals; that represents a decline of fourteen deals year on year. Some notable examples include:

  • Nestlé is selling a fifty per cent stake in its water and premium drinks activities to Platinum Equity to establish a new joint venture: Peranel.
  • The acquisition of Delivery Hero SE by SSW Partners.
  • European Candy Group is being acquired by Orkla.

The most active sector in July, measured by number of deals, was 'diversified packaged products' with nine deals. Examples of these include:

  • Greencore Group plc, of which a 4.97 per cent stake is being acquired by an unknown buyer,
  • Glenhaven Foods (Arklow) UC is being acquired by Scandi Standard AB, and
  • Naming SL is being acquired by Palacios Alimentación SA.

Various potential acquisitions and exits are also being explored. Some examples:

  • Belgian brewer Brouwerij Haacht has attracted interest from competing brewers Heineken and Duvel Moortgat.
  • Cake Box Holdings, the British cake maker and franchise retailer, is seeking acquisitions to expand its domestic presence.
  • Purdy & Figg, a British provider of environmentally friendly household cleaning products, is preparing for a sale.
