Vancouver's population are well-educated, tech savvy do-ers. On the go and pressed for time, its citizens and businesses are always seeking the easiest, most efficient ways to get the job done. But the City lacked a digital infrastructure, and that made even routine tasks – like obtaining permits or renewing a dog license - a time-consuming, bureaucratic hassle. Easy online access to all city services would be a dream come true for the people of Vancouver.
We assessed the City’s digital maturity in five areas - online, mobile, infrastructure, assets, and organization. Then we invited industry insiders, students, executives, and citizens to sit in on design sessions for a new infrastructure. We brought them in for interviews and roundtables. We even invited them to participate in an online crowd-sourcing exercise. This generated over 120 ideas, nine of which became the core of the City’s digital strategy.
We built out a four-year digital strategy roadmap for the City that focused on improving digital access and infrastructure, as well as making citizens more digitally savvy.
We chose the image of a dog to accompany this client case, as it is a reference to the dog license.
