I am Eileen, 26 years old and I live in Amsterdam! During my thesis internship within the PwC FS Technology team, I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to stay. That is why I started as a consultant in this team last October. I also love trying out new things, from cooking to sport. This is probably why I wanted to work in consulting.
“Within PwC FS, you can really use your creativity and innovative ideas when it comes to digitisation”
During my business administration bachelor at the University of Groningen, I became increasingly interested in information technology. That is why, after completing my studies, I opted for the master's in digital business at the University of Amsterdam. During this master's, I gained a lot of knowledge in both the technical field (e.g. data science, IT systems) and the strategic and innovative field (e.g. go-to-market strategies, digital innovations and technologies).
I learned about technology consulting within PwC by taking part in a ‘high wine’ recruitment event. After several online coffees with people from different technology teams, I realised that this would be my dream job and applied for a thesis internship. During this internship, in addition to interviewing PwC clients for my research, I was also allowed to work on a real project. That made me totally convinced that I would fit in here.
FS stands for Financial Services; this means that the clients we help are often banks, insurers or pension providers/funds. This market segment is highly innovative and is often ahead of other work fields, which is precisely the reason why I am so enthusiastic about it. You can really use your creativity and innovative ideas in this sector when it comes to digitisation. Developments such as blockchain, cloud transformations and cryptocurrencies feature regularly in our daily work.
“I make social impact by working on certain assignments”
At the moment I'm working on a project at an insurance company where we are helping with an implementation plan to modernise their IT landscape and digitise the entire organisation. My day mainly consists of meetings in the areas of, for instance, business & operations and IT and client capabilities. For example, I do research on current and most recent technology solutions, I work on cost forecasts, map out a future IT landscape and bring the entire picture together (project management).
I have a really nice team that energises me. Working with clients motivates me. I make social impact by working on certain assignments, within the pension market, for example. I also get many opportunities to develop myself.
I am most proud of the webinar on agility in the pension market that I am organising. It is a project in which I had complete freedom and support from various colleagues. And it is great fun to be “in the lead” of such a cool project, with clients also being invited to talk about their experiences.
There are so many different subjects, clients, assignments and colleagues within FS technology that there is bound to be something that excites you! And although it's a bit of a cliché: “the world is your oyster”. If you want to achieve something or try something out, you have plenty of opportunities within PwC.
