Why did you choose PwC?

I have worked for PwC ever since my graduation internship. I have mainly spent this period exploring the organisation. I discovered that the company values suit me well. I wanted to join one of the Big Four firms after graduating. Now that I have a contract, I can say that this goal has been accomplished.

“PwC offers you a personal well-being budget that you can use, for example, for fitness programmes or personal development.”

Meet Thierry. A fitness fanatic, team player, tax consultant and solver at PwC.

What exactly do you do?

I check the salary positions in financial statements. For instance, payroll tax, leave days and holiday pay. I am part of the so-called audit of wage tax team. This means I examine tax risks within the salary process and how the client can manage these risks.

What does your working day look like?

This varies from identifying process risks in the client's salary process to performing an audit. In addition, I guide new colleagues when it comes to professional practices and write improvement guidelines in this regard.

“I particularly value the challenging nature, complexity and flexibility of my job.”

What is the most challenging project that you have worked on?

I am most proud of my contribution for a client in the airline sector. The process was a bit tricky, but we were still able to achieve a great result. The Temporary emergency bridging measure for sustained employment (NOW) also played a role during this engagement, which means we also had to deal with the public side of the matter.

To what extent has your career at PwC already been planned?

I currently feel very comfortable at PwC. Each year, you are given a few goals to accelerate your personal development as much as possible. I think this approach has allowed me to develop quickly, both professionally and personally. As things currently stand, I see myself rising to the position of manager.

Which opportunities offers PwC?

PwC offers you all the opportunities that you could want. You also have many possibilities for finding the right place within the organisation. For example, by quickly seeing how other departments operate. You also have a personal well-being budget that you can use, for example, for fitness programmes or personal development. I opted for a two-year development process with an external career coach.

How would you describe the teams in which you work?

The composition of my team varies greatly. I always work with a manager and a junior colleague. In addition, I work closely with colleagues from the advisory practice during engagements.

What can you say about the work-life balance at PwC?

We barely work overtime because we always carefully examine how work is allocated within the team. If you are relatively new, you will need a lot of supervision. But, of course, this decreases as your career progresses. You can be more flexible in how you plan your days and can decide which project you will be working on. The work-life balance is very important, we keep a close eye on one another within our team and are always alert for how people are feeling.

“You can achieve a lot in a short space of time at PwC.”

What do you think of the culture at PwC?

I enjoy the culture. My team is very tight-knit, and we also do things away from work, like going out or having a drink in the sun. If people need it, there is always someone with whom they can share their personal affairs. It is good that a lot of attention is given on this front.

“There is a nice working atmosphere in the teams at PwC, you are surrounded by pleasant colleagues.”

What do you like about your job?

I particularly value the challenging nature and complexity of my job. In addition, I think having the flexibility to work from home is also a major advantage. This means I have enough time to work on my health, by going to the gym or by monitoring my diet.

Why would you recommend working at PwC?

You can achieve a lot in a short time at PwC. And because there is a lot of attention for your well-being and work-life balance, you also feel that your hard work is being appreciated. In addition, the teams at PwC have a pleasant working atmosphere, and you are surrounded by nice colleagues.
