Quentin Roy

Consultant People in Deals & Business Transformations

What is your academic background?

I completed a Master's in Business Administration in Change Management. I then spent one and a half years working at a Dutch trading company in Dubai. During this period abroad, I learned a lot about myself and how to act in situations that I had never considered before.

“I felt very welcome at PwC from day one. Everyone is friendly and my colleagues are easy to approach.”

Meet Quentin. An adventurer, runner, Deals & Transformations consultant and solver at PwC.

How did you end up at PwC?

My interest in PwC was triggered by a friend who also works for PwC. He is always positive about his experiences and his activities sound very challenging. He connected me with his colleagues. I had a good feeling after I had spoken to them and decided to apply for a job at PwC.

Why did you choose PwC?

I mainly chose PwC because I wanted to work somewhere where I was going to learn a lot. And because I wanted to handle a variety of client issues, together with colleagues with various specialisations.

“The great thing about my job is that, together with my team, I become familiar with many different companies within a short time frame.”

What exactly do you do?

The aim of People in Deals & Business Transformation is to help clients, from strategy to execution. This ranges from performing due diligence investigations to transformations and integrations in the field of HR. We focus on various types of transactions. For instance, takeovers, company restructuring and ‘capital events’ like stock market listings. In recent months, I have been helping to integrate three international companies. Harmonising all the different business cultures is always a challenge.

What caught your intention when you first started at PwC?

The amazing working atmosphere. I felt very welcome at PwC from day one. Everyone is friendly and my colleagues are easy to approach. I like the fact that people are always open to questions or a cup of coffee. In addition, you are also given the time to become familiar with the whole team.

What does your working day look like?

Each day is different and that is what makes it so fun. However, for some projects, you really need to incorporate fixed time slots to ensure the required focus, because every detail matters. But for other projects, you can spend whole days working with clients in various workshop sessions. Sometimes you have intensive client contact, while at other times you work alone to perform the required analyses. I like this variety and that makes the job so dynamic. That said, time management can sometimes be challenging during the week.

What do you enjoy about your work?

That me and my team become familiar with various companies in a short space of time. And, the feeling that you can have a real impact, because I often work in small project-based teams that achieve fast results.

What can you tell us about your team?

My People in Deals team consists of over thirty colleagues, who work in the Amsterdam and Rotterdam offices. The thing I really like about our team is that it is very open and international. Because there is a nice mix of different cultures, we can realise a certain dynamic. In addition, there is a lot of room for feedback, which means you can learn quickly.

What is still left on your bucket list?

I would really like to run the New York marathon, as well as a half Iron man (classic long-distance triathlon). Perhaps this is too ambitious, but I like to push my boundaries.

“I appreciate the freedom and flexibility I have because I can work from home as well as at the office.”

What do you think about the work-life balance at PwC?

As an organisation, PwC is very good at ensuring a healthy balance between people's personal and professional lives. Everything is tailored to your specific needs. I appreciate the freedom and flexibility I have because I can work from home as well as in the office. Personally, I am almost always in the office. Not only because of the social aspect, but also because it has a motivational effect.

What characterises the working atmosphere at PwC?

I think there is a really enjoyable working atmosphere, which is very open and respectful. You can easily approach people and ask them anything you like. This works well and also makes it possible to quickly find the best solutions.

“The variety makes my job dynamic; one moment I am busy interacting with clients, and the next moment I am working alone to perform the required analyses.”

How does PwC help you in your chosen career path?

I think this is something you do yourself. If you clearly know what you need to improve, PwC will offer you the best support possible in this regard. This could involve a course or another type of personal development. You can also discover your strengths and passions. I can imagine that people will not always know this at the start of their careers. In any case, PwC certainly gives you all the freedom you need to think about this.

Which project makes you proud?

I have recently completed a major international integration involving three companies. We examined the possibilities for harmonising everything as effectively as possible and tried to find synergy between the companies. It was up to our team to direct the change process as effectively as possible in terms of HR, including the accompanying uncertainties.

What would you like to say to your future colleagues?

Enjoy yourself, always remain curious and dare to ask questions - the rest will follow automatically. In any case, my colleagues and I will always be open for a chat or coffee, and will happily tell you more about our activities and the team.
