Senior Associate Entity Governance & Compliance

Noëlle van Steenoven

Why did you choose PwC?

‘I was ready for a new challenge with more focus on the client. Through a tip from a college friend, I applied for a position within the corporate governance & compliance team. During the conversation I got enthusiastic about the comfortable working ambiance and the different projects I could join. When I got an offer, I didn’t have to think long.’

“Working abroad for a while is also an option at PwC.”

What exactly do you do?

‘I organise the annual compliance for a client. That means that I assist colleagues, including with drawing up the documents for the adoption of the annual accounts.  I was also allowed to help a client with a shares transfer. Very interesting because you get to work with colleagues and the solicitor. Recently I’ve started helping colleagues with a project to make the invoicing process run as effectively as possible. So my work is pretty varied.’

What does your workday look like?

‘No workday is the same. Meetings can be moved in a minute, it all depends on what gets priority. I regularly commute back and forth between my home and the office. One moment I have meetings with clients at the office. In another moment I work at home on the invoicing process.’

What is the most challenging project that you are proud of?

‘Right now, I am working for a client that is active in the gas and oil industry. The sector has been under close scrutiny for some time now because of the Climate Agreement. It’s great to see how a client commits to contributing to the climate goals. I’m proud that I am contributing to that.’

To what extent is your career path at PwC mapped out?

‘If you want to make the next step within our team, it is pretty clear what is expected of you. If you meet those expectations and PwC sees potential, a lot is possible. The great thing about PwC is that you can also take a step outside of your department. Working abroad for a while is also an option.’

What opportunities are offered to you at PwC

‘You name it, there is training available. Recently I joined in training about how to deal with clients in certain situations. I also like to watch the videos of the Academy of the Law practice to keep my legal knowledge up to date. On a personal level, PwC offers a wellbeing budget. You can use that for example for a conversation with a career coach or for massages.’

What does your team look like?

‘The Entity Governance & compliance team I work for, consists of about twelve people. Personally I work with four colleagues for one client.’

What can you say about the work-life balance at PwC?

‘There is a lot of flexibility at PwC, even if you work full time. If I want to exercise during the day, that is very much possible. I have recently started house hunting so every now and then I have to go look at a house. To compensate I work a little longer or start the day earlier.’

“There is a lot of flexibility at PwC, even if you work full time. If I want to go to the gym or do a house viewing during the day, that is very much possible.”

How would you describe the culture at PwC?

‘The culture within PwC Legal feels both professional and informal to me.’

“If your idea is feasible, it is quite possible that it gets implemented in different countries. How cool is it that as an employee of PwC the Netherlands you could be making a difference worldwide?”
