Associate Edge Deals Traineeship

Why did you choose the Edge Deals traineeship at PwC?

During my studies, I attended an in-house day of Deals. I had a good connection with the people I met that day, and their enthusiasm about the challenging work and the pleasant atmosphere convinced me to apply. Additionally, through the Edge rotation traineeship, I can experience different aspects within Deals. I knew beforehand that working in a deals context greatly appealed to me, but I didn't yet know in which role. I am convinced that I can discover this well through the traineeship.

“I expect to be able to expand my technical skills. PwC uses various digital tools that I am eager to learn to work with effectively.”

How was it to start at PwC?

PwC ensures a pleasant and smooth start. You begin with a group of fellow trainees with whom you attend all the onboarding events. It is great to be able to share your experiences with people who have just started the traineeship as well. Additionally, I was assigned a buddy within my department who guided me through PwC and the department. Moreover, everyone is open to any questions you may have or for a friendly cup of coffee.

Which track within Edge did you choose and why?

I chose the rotation track because I am interested in multiple aspects of a deal and therefore did not yet know in which department I saw myself working. Besides gaining knowledge in different departments, you also really build a valuable network within PwC. In a relatively short period, you get a lot of exposure to various teams and projects, which helps you get a good idea of which department suits you best. This greatly appealed to me, hence the choice for the rotation program.

“I really enjoy the dynamic environment of my work. You get the opportunity to work on various deals in different industries.”

What does the program look like for you?

I have just completed the first rotation at ESG and am now in the Valuation & Modeling team. My final rotation is Corporate Finance. I think this gives me a nice mix between qualitative and quantitative departments.

What exactly do you do?

As an associate, you really become part of the team. You work on projects, proposals, and other ongoing projects within the department. The tasks depend heavily on the project. In Valuations, you often have multiple projects running simultaneously and are primarily responsible for tasks such as building models and writing reports.

What does your workday look like?

I usually start the day with a cup of tea at the coffee corner with my colleagues. Then I get to work on the project/proposal work that I am assisting with. As an associate, you are part of one of the five teams, but you can also be asked to do work for another team, so you might suddenly have a project within another sub-team. This makes working within Valuations fun and challenging. In Valuation & Modeling, most colleagues are on the same floor, making it easy to interact with everyone, which is great when you start as you get to know a lot of new people quickly.

What do you expect to learn during this traineeship?

I expect to expand my technical skills. PwC uses various digital tools that I would like to learn to work with effectively. The most fun part is, of course, working on projects, as I believe that is where you learn the most.

What do you like about your work?

I really enjoy the dynamic environment of my work. You get the opportunity to work on various deals in different industries. This helps you build a broad industry knowledge. Additionally, I really like my colleagues. There is a great atmosphere, senior colleagues are up for a chat, and your opinion is valued from the beginning.

What does your team look like?

The Valuations & Modeling team consists of about fifty people divided into five teams. This is quite a change compared to my first rotation at ESG where there were thirteen people. The Valuations & Modeling team is also very international with colleagues from different backgrounds, giving me the chance to learn a lot. It is also a very friendly team that regularly organizes social events.

Do you do activities together outside of work?

Apart from work, many social events are organized. The trainee group regularly goes for drinks. PwC Deals also organizes a Christmas party and a ski trip, and various social activities are organized with the team as well. In Valuations, a padel tournament is currently being organized.

What do you think about the work-life balance at PwC?

The work-life balance is highly respected at PwC. Working in the deals context can sometimes have an unpredictable nature. However, there is a lot of flexibility, which helps to keep your free time in balance.

What would you say to future colleagues?

To my future colleagues, I would say that besides the challenging projects you will work on, PwC also has a major social aspect. The average age within Deals is quite low, so there is always someone up for a drink!
