What exactly do you do? Can you tell us more about your work content?
‘As a tax specialist, I advise large national and international organisations on all aspects of wage taxes. My specialism is Dutch wage tax and social security. I work for clients in both the private and public sector. My work also involves resolving issues on the application of legislation, compliance and processes in the context of horizontal supervision and mergers and acquisitions. In doing so, I also address international taxation, payroll and compensation & benefits issues.’
What’s your average working day like?
‘As I work for several clients in one day, no working day is the same. For example, I could give a workshop on the work-related expenses scheme in the morning and in the afternoon review a client’s tax control framework prepared by a colleague.’

What do you like about your work?
‘The fact that every day is totally different and never boring. I don’t have a fixed range of tasks. However, I need to be able to adapt quickly and work with different people. Helping colleagues at the start of their careers is something I also enjoy. As a result, I learn something new every day, not only about myself, but also professionally. Never a dull moment!’
Which project are you most proud of?
‘That was a project in which we helped a client with the horizontal supervision. Transparency between the Tax and Customs Administration and businesses based on trust is key in this case. Together with colleagues from other tax disciplines, we helped the client’s in-house organisation to become as compliant as possible by means of analysis, monitoring and testing. Only then was agreement renewal between the client and the Tax and Customs Administration possible, and we managed to achieve that within the deadline. I am proud of it because horizontal supervision involves the social responsibility that businesses have to contribute their fair share of taxes.’
What can you tell us about your team? / What are the teams you work like?
‘My Employment Tax team consists of more than 40 colleagues spread across the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven offices. In terms of experience, my colleagues range from those with more than 25 years' experience to those who started last month. The majority are tax specialists, supplemented by payroll specialists and data experts.’

How does PwC help with your career path?
‘Basically, you mostly do that yourself. When you know what your focus is, are aware of your expertise and your spot on the horizon, you can take all the steps that contribute to that goal. You can also identify where your interests and strengths lie over time, by attending courses that help you with your personal development, or training on a professional level. If you grow, so will PwC, is the reasoning behind it.’
What do you think of the work-life balance at PwC?
‘The great thing about working at PwC is that I can create my own daily schedule. I set my own agenda. That means I can organise my time as efficiently and appropriately as possible in close consultation with colleagues. That way you offer each other space and help each other out where necessary.’
What defines the working atmosphere at PwC?
‘The fact that everyone is so motivated to grow and help our clients in the best way. I notice it when I discuss an idea with a colleague. That’s when the cogs start turning and we ask ourselves all kinds of questions. What role can I play/how can I contribute? Which projects fit in neatly with this? That dynamic is what I like most about my job.’
