From 1 July 2018 Croatian nationals no longer require a work permit in order to work in the Netherlands. From the same date, Dutch nationals will not require a work permit in order to work in Croatia.
Croatia joined the EU on 1 July 2013. However until now transitional measures were in place that meant that Croatians required a work permit in order to work in the Netherlands. A reciprocal regime was in place restricting access for Dutch nationals to the Croatian labour market.
On 8 June 2018 the Dutch cabinet decided to lift the Dutch labour market restriction for Croatian nationals, starting 1 June 2018. The reasoning is that there is no risk of a severe disruption to the local Dutch labour market if the transitional measures are not extended. Similary, Croatia will lift the transtional measures currently in place for Dutch nationals.
Croatia is the last EU member state for which transitional measures apply.
