What does The New Equation mean to you personally?

Sustainable progress is important to me because it creates a strong foundation for the future. I translate this to bringing together different insights, people and using collective brainpower. This type of collaboration is characteristic for my work environment: Brainport Eindhoven. An innovative ecosystem where companies, students and entrepreneurs within the high-tech industry come together to develop and apply new technologies.

How did you end up at PwC and what exactly do you do?

I came into contact with PwC through the Tax Course, an interactive program for students. Currently I fulfill the position of Director Corporate Tax. This means I am usually the first point of contact for activities related to advising on (international) corporate income tax.

Why did you choose this position?

The combination of contact with customers, managing a team and working together with colleagues from different disciplines. The majority of my customers are located in the Brainport ecosystem of Eindhoven. A fast-growing region of technological developments and innovations. This creates a working environment where a lot happens, the High Tech Campus for example. The center of thriving industry, entrepreneurs and students for technological innovations in the field of sustainability, digitization and health.

What is your educational background?

I studied Tax Law at Tilburg University and did a post-master in International and European Tax Law.

What does your typical working day look like?

My daily activities are very diverse and consist of both physical appointments with customers as online conference calls. In addition, hybrid working comes with a great deal of flexibility. Especially since we have an office located on the High Tech Campus, in addition to the center of Eindhoven. On office days we deal with cases and plan a nice team outing every now and then.

What do you like about your work and what makes it challenging?

Every week is different, which makes it challenging. In addition, I work with very diverse and ambitious people who truly want the best for our customers.

Who are you in your spare time?

I like to spend a lot of time with friends, go out to dinner or take the electric car to drive to new places and spend the day there.

What is still on your bucket list?

I would like to go back to South Africa to do a road trip and explore another part.

Can you tell us something about your team/collaboration/colleagues/the open culture at PwC?

I work within a very nice team with diverse personalities. There is a relaxed atmosphere, we work hard but there is also time for social activities such as drinks, a ski trip, and the team barbeque.

Is there room for personal growth/development within PwC?

This is where the whole organization is built on! It works both ways: if you develop as a professional, you in turn contribute to our customers and the team.

Can you name a project you are proud of?

Currently I am working on a very nice project. A tech company, located on the High Tech campus and for which international investors are in line, is developing a new type of chips. They are extremely fast-growing. We assist them across the board and are involved from the start to design the Tax strategy like an architect.

What can you say about the flexibility/work-life balance at PwC?

This is very flexible in terms of working hours, location and type of work. The importance of work-life balance has been on the agenda more and more the last couple of years. It is up to you to organize this how you see fit, with a wellbeing budget which I see expanding every year.
